Last night in my dreams
I drank with the devil

As my band finished a set
I set my drumsticks down
And sat at the bar
Nursing a gin and tonic
To soothe my throat

She sat down next to me
With a glass of blood red wine
“Let me introduce myself”
She smiled and said to me
I turned and said,
I know your name
I’ve beaten you twice, so tell me
What’s your game?”

She leaned in closer
And whispered in my ear
“Give your soul to me
And I’ll take your poetry
Publish it and make you rich
And take away your pain”

I smiled at her and shook my head
My soul is already spoken for
I’m just an empty shell
You’ll never ever get my soul
So go on back to Hell”

She raised her glass and laughed
