November 11 is Veterans Day, and I simply wanted to offer my thank you to all the men and women who have served or are serving our country in the Armed Forces.

This day began with Armistice Day, November 11, 1918, which ended the First World War. Congress formalized Armistice Day as a national holiday in 1938. After World War II and The Korean War, the day was renamed Veterans Day, and it serves as a time to honor all of those who have served or are serving.

Please let it be a day of honor and thanks, not one of special sales deals. It is a day to recognize the commitment, duty, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces.

“Where have all the flowers gone?”

Roth Poetry

EER_0518

Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, when fighting ceased, bringing an end to WWI. It was called the war to end all wars, but sadly we see conflicts and wars continue throughout the world. Some say war is Hell and I would tend to agree. Many brave soldiers lost their lives on the battlefield. The horrific atrocities that occurred were unimaginable. Our leaders have not learned from our past. The division in our country can only lead to further conflict in our own back yard. We must learn how to agree to disagree and move beyond our personal power trips. We must stop sending our best young people to slaughter in ongoing wars of our own making.

A Drink With The Devil – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Come check out how Walt has been “Dealin’ With The Devil” in his poem – “A DRINK WITH THE DEVIL”

Walt's Writings

Last night in my dreams
I drank with the devil

As my band finished a set
I set my drumsticks down
And sat at the bar
Nursing a gin and tonic
To soothe my throat

She sat down next to me
With a glass of blood red wine
“Let me introduce myself”
She smiled and said to me
I turned and said,
I know your name
I’ve beaten you twice, so tell me
What’s your game?”

She leaned in closer
And whispered in my ear
“Give your soul to me
And I’ll take your poetry
Publish it and make you rich
And take away your pain”

I smiled at her and shook my head
My soul is already spoken for
I’m just an empty shell
You’ll never ever get my soul
So go on back to Hell”

She raised her glass and laughed
“Here’s to you old man
Have…

The lonesome whistle boomed across the valley, shook my cell and bore into my soul.

I marked the journeys to and fro, carrying countless passenger to their destinations, to dreamlike places where I could not go.

I imagined travelers viewing my castle’s beautiful tower from afar, wishing they were me and never realizing my dearest wish was to be on the train seated next to them.

What I Need

Sarah Doughty

“Wanting is one thing,
but need is entirely different.
I needed you and you were mine.”

I find myself thinking about the what ifs. What would I be doing if my circumstances were different. If I could live wherever I wanted. But then I reign myself back in. Because reality is what it is, and I have what I need. Wanting is one thing, but need is entirely different. I needed to write, so I write. I needed you and you were mine. That is always something to be grateful for.

It was always you. Yes, you. No matter who you are, where you are, or how you look, or how we are connected. You are here, reading these words. My soul is connected with yours in this one, finite moment.

Thank you for being here with me.
