PEEK-A-BOO

PEEK-A-BOO

By CHARLES ROBERT LINDHOLM  1-30-2017 – 4:00 a.m.

A BLISTERINGLY,

 BLAZING YELLOW FIREBALL

LAUNCHES AN ATTACK

UPON THE NIGHT

PRECISELY WHEN THE COCK CROWS

AT DAWN

IT’S A SNEAK ATTACK

BUT NOT REALLY

WE SIT AND WATCH THE SHOW

MOTHER NATURE’S

GAME OF PEEK-A-BOO

WE’VE COME TO

LOVE AND KNOW

THE SUN JUMPS OUT

AND SCARES THE NIGHT

AND THE DARKNESS

RUNS AWAY

THE NIGHT

IT RUNS AROUND THE WORLD

AND CREEPS BACK IN THE SKY

AS DARKNESS HUMS A SUNSET SONG

A SLEEPY LULLABY

DAY IS DONE

AND GIVES A YAWN

AS THE SUN GOES OFF TO SLEEP

BUT ANOTHER GAME OF PEEK-A-BOO

WILL START ANEW AT DAWN

I AM NOT A POET

By Charles Robert Lindholm  1-20-2017  @ 11:30 p.m.

I AM NOT A POET

I AM JUST A SCRIBE

WRITING DOWN THE WORDS

THE UNIVERSE WHISPERS

TO ME ON THE WIND

THE WORDS SING

TO NATURE’S SONG

THEY SPEAK TO THE SOUL

AND TOUCH OUR HEARTS

THEY BRING TEARS TO OUR EYES

AND SMILES TO OUR FACES

THEY HIDE THEIR DEEPEST MEANING

BETWEEN THE LINES AND THE SPACES

THEY TELL ME THEIR NAME

THEY TELL ME THEIR STORY

BUT I AM NOT A POET

I AM A SCRIBE

TICS AND TOCS (MOSAIC PIECES)

By Charles Robert Lindholm

The clock keeps time

so evenly

with a little tick

and then a toc

marking out the day

measuring the seconds

as they slowly slip away

morning, noon and then the night

mosaic pieces of each day

magical moments

wonderful memories

marking a lifetime

work of art

colored

with

tics

and

tocs

THE CROSSING

By Charles Robert Lindholm 1-16-2017 @ 11:07 p.m.

The travelers come

across the open space

mostly in the mornings

at daybreak

Their pace is random

sometimes in a hurry

to be somewhere

and sometimes with a

leisurely stroll

pausing to smell the roses

they are fun to watch

but we worry

about the crossing

they have to make

there is no crosswalk

and no signs

where they choose to

go across a four lane road

the crossing spot varies

from day to day

as well as their mood

from disdainful to crazy

in a heartbeat

the cars stop

but close calls happen

and once in awhile

a tragedy

We worry about the crossing

and the fawns!

EXQUISITE PERFORMANCE

By Charles Robert Lindholm   1-15-2017 @ noon

The performers start to gather

ready for the show

eagerly I take my seat

in a balcony row

from the darkened wings

I hear them

warming up their song

anxiously I wait for

“Prelude To The Dawn”

The stage is dark

black curtains rise

and footlights start to glow

everyone is in their place

ready for the show

The songbirds sing

and flit about

the sky is changing color

the clouds appear

and breezes blow

and daylight starts to shine

The set is such a masterpiece

a gentle landscape scene

the sun appears

on center stage

in glowing splendor

and all too soon

it’s over

another exquisite performance

of “An Ode To The Sun”

from the “Sunrise Suite”

and a standing ovation from me

on my hilltop perch
