A Rose for Mother

Charmed Chaos

My mother instilled a deep respect for nature within me. She taught me all I know about gardening and encouraged my curiosity about the world around me. I remember her best in the garden. Her slender hands stained from the earth, her eyes as blue as the sky. Wispy hair pinned off her neck to catch any cool breeze in the humid summer heat. She wore her favorite old jeans grubby at the knees, and a faded cotton shirt. She never cared what she wore, for she would rather spend her last dime on a new flower.

She loved to watch the sunrise sitting on her back porch that faced the woods. She sat in her old rocking chair, drinking her coffee and listening to the birds serenading the dawn. Although she is gone, she was/is my touchstone for what is real in my life.
