TRACE ME, PAINT ME

By Charles Robert Lindholm

Trace me with your fingers
From my head down to my toes
From the mountains to the valley
Let your fingertips disclose
My limbs and all my branches
And the curving of my nose
Let me feel your gentle strokes
Marking out my pose

Trace me with your fingers
On my curving skin’s terrain
From the rounding of my shoulders
To my flat and firmest plain
Shade my face with fingertips
Let your lines explain
My waving, whirling, curling mane

Show the twinkle in my eyes
That you say you love so much
Trace me with your fingertips
With your loving, gentle touch

And when you’re finished
tracing me
Paint,
my canvas too
Paint me,
in a thrilling way
Like only you can do
Dip your tongue between my lips
And let me fill your heart
Then take it to the mountain tops
And let the painting start
