Cherishables

Whispers of a poet's heart

Between the distance and silence

There lives a hollowness to subsist

Where fires burn from held memories

Of older days that have passed

But live forever in our hearts

Like whispers without shadows

Only our souls can interpret

I tried to spare you some pain

Even if it came, at my own expense

But I was totally oblivious

That you were doing the same

Sometimes the price of love

Comes at our greatest tax

And that’s what makes it… beautiful

My Light is Shining

flashlight batteries - Ali Grimshaw

I am honored to have my poem, Sidewalk Gallery, included in this anthology alongside many other poets that I adore. Thank you, Brian Geiger, for the opportunity to share my words.

From the publisher: “From a shaft of sunlight warming the kitchen floor to a lush forest by Walden pond, what is it about experiencing nature that pleases and fulfills us? In the third volume of theVita Brevis Poetry Anthology, established and emerging poets from around the world show what nature means to them. This is nature poetry at its most precise and moving, continuing the long tradition of Transcendentalism, deciphering ourselves and the world that sustains us — with art.”

You can find Nothing Divine Dies here in paperback and ebook.

Winter Memories- Michael Erickson

Come and Enjoy this from Michael!!!

Go Dog Go Café

Curl up next to me,

With warm memories woven upon us.

As a frosted world turns,

And we feel a shadow of the void.

Celebrate the present time,

With fingers interlaced and hearts entwined.

Hidden away from howling wind,

And frosted plains sleeping so dark.

This place is ours insulated with a hundred moments,

Protected within our forms.

Curl up next to me,

That we may weave more winter memories.

Michael is a husband, father, writer, poet, and aspiring author. He finds time to scribble down his thoughts in the dead of night, between ghosts and night owls. If you’d like to read more of his poetry follow the link here. Or to visit his full blog, ‘The Ink Owl’ click here.

Burnt To Life

Secret Thoughts Within

Original image by nevs28 found here

My life was numb
living through the hours in a disconnected haze
nothing to look forward to
except a colourless sunrise

Then you came along
and with you
I felt something
            seen and safe
I felt something
            no longer alone

It didn’t last
now you’re gone
but I’m no longer numb
I still feel something
a pain which scalds inside my veins
            burning through me

I don’t ignore the agony
It’s twisted
but
the terrible way you treated me
brought me back from the grave
and burnt me back to life
