Skin, gin and sin city…

Skin, gin and sin city….

Pretty lady sat near me at the tavern and I said hello. She smiled and she came nearer. She caressed my military hair-cut and she asked. Soldier, coming home or going to war? I told her, the war is done for awhile. She spoke like a hooker in a high class Vegas club. She was. Her voice sweet and spicy. She whispered with a twisted smile, “Skin, gin and sin city. Ambrosia for us who understand, the body demand payment, the gin taste better with ice and lemon juice. Sin city was built from the lowest form of life. Utopia for us who love to taste the dirt of living. You damn soldiers and I. Just selling and buying shit from liars and the naysayers.”

I told her, I loved your black dress, I loved your long legs, as long as highway 80 and you are…

At the eve (revisited)

3 of 10 in the Jemverse ‘Summer 21’ series

At the eve of this day

I will lie back in lavender

And there will be evening sunshine

And a deep breath of contentment

And I will smile

At the eve of this day

I will think like a rainbow

And there will be colours of summer

And the soothing comfort of a captured smile

And I will sing

At the eve of this day

I will settle to the embers of a woodland fire

And there will be woodsmoke

And the humid scent of perfume in the air

And I will feel

At the eve of this day

I will embrace all of this pleasure

And there will be flotsam on the breeze

And a dream like solitude where all is well

And I will be

Garden Song – a poem by Paul Vincent Cannon

At dVerse guest host Claudia has invited us to write about a garden.

dVerse Poets – Poetics – Garden(ing)

Photo: segment of our garden at Augusta.

“When the world wearies and society fails to satisfy, there is always the garden.” Minnie Aumonier

Garden Song

There's a cosmos in reach of my aching
touch of skin and veins, beneath my feet
emotion runs and wriggles, and it dwells
within as I inhale its many spices in unison
with the palette that captures my eyes,
feeding my senses with songs of colour
and rhythmic joy, opening me to each
movement of this wondrous melody of
all that flies and calls, great or small,
calling me to stop, slow down, and sip
the wine of its simple complexity.

The Roar Of Peace

I Write Her

my frazzled soul
       then leans
into the beckoning of birdsong
drawing me in further

all my senses imbibe deeply
the multitude of earthtones
and various shades of green
the rapid flow of moisture
beguiling, mesmerizing

the rush of the river
grounds my senses
replaces tension with ease
and fills every pore of me
with enchantment

i am nourished...
