Tidal Waves

Sarah Doughty

“It was you. You hit me like a tidal wave.
There was no going back. And I was okay with that.”

It was you. You hit me like a tidal wave. I spent my whole life trying to find my way, but I was just stumbling. One day, just like the flip of a switch, the lights turned on. There I stood, right in the middle of a crowded room. I didn’t know how, but I could sense you were nearby. My future. When I spotted you, it was like the world paused for an instant. I saw you and those eyes of yours. I was spellbound by their depths. Like the ocean couldn’t compare to the blue that shone through them. But it wasn’t just your eyes, it was everything about you. It was like you were waiting for me too. Right then, I knew, there was no going…

Could Have Been

Sarah Doughty

“And I hope you know how much
I wish things could have been.”

There is just something
about the calm of night.
It speaks to me
like a breath on the wind.
And sometimes.
Sometimes, I whisper back
in hopes that you’ll hear them
and know how much
I wish things could have been.

Will I find you tonight?

johncoyote

Will I find you tonight?

A walkaway love left me waiting for her to return.

I remember her tight black dress and her beautiful face. She told me. Dark Poet, we can sing and dance all night long. She reached over and gave me kisses and whispered. The night is never long enough and never enough good whiskey. Damn life don’t want us to know any kind of utopia. We are doomed to swim in shit forever

Black skies and wild sea was our paradise. By the light of the Monterey moon. We made promises we couldn’t keep. She had her songs and I had the poetry and the Army.

At the small studio apartment. I watched her paint her face and blacken her nails. I saw in her eyes. She was  preparing her mind.  She wanted to play the guitar with hatred. Wild and sweet Lily lived hard and…

Nothing has Changed

House of Heart

When dreams pull me under
I call out across the ocean
You meet me at  the shore
and there is nothing to  hold to
but silvery shadows that cross
and uncross in our slumbering sea.
I bend to you  fragile as  sea foam
tossed in wind rifts  released
from unfastened hands.
This is how I love you
a prisoner of  repetition
like endless waves you come and go.

The 2020 Daily Writing Challenge – May 28

Jo Hawk

2020 Daily Writing Challenge

Writing is like driving at night in the fog.
You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.
– E. L. Doctorow

Today is Day 149 of the 2020 Daily Writing Challenge.

Did you write yesterday?  We get knocked down sometimes. Current events have done an excellent job of destroying normal. There is a silver lining. These times have granted us an opportunity to reexamine life, priorities, and what happiness really means.  I am determined, and I refuse to stay stuck in a mess. Today, I stand up, regroup, reset my intentions, and recommit to attaining my dreams.

An ongoing topic of exploration is Cal Newport’s concept of deep work, “the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task.” Newport advocates approaching and completing challenging tasks by eliminating distractions, committing to block scheduling, and adhering to your intentions.

The Rhythm of Persistence to Wear a Path to Success – Daily Quote

Few things happen overnight. Okay, you can have your orders delivered in twenty-four hours, your movies play on-demand, information is available with a quick search, and the world spins at a breakneck speed. It is easy to get caught in the whirlwind, racing to perform jobs faster, and faster. Our anxiety builds when we can’t complete every task on our lengthy lists.

There are advantages to ambling along at a leisurely pace. We can make minor mistakes without dire consequences and adjust our course as needed. It also grants us time to spend with family and friends and honor other obligations. By moving deliberately, we build strength, and we gather momentum. The work moves forward with less effort, and we find ourselves carried across the finish line. We grant ourselves precious moments to savor our journey. Dripping like water, we carve deep impressions on solid rock.

How will you make your mark?

Fresh Start

Sarah Doughty

“You are amazing. And no matter what,
you deserve to be loved.”

Let me start by saying you’re amazing. When it comes to love, well, love is love is love. No matter what you’ve been through, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be loved like the world begins and ends with you. It doesn’t mean that you don’t deserve to be happy. To be loved. To make a fresh start and live your life fulfilled.
