“The reason that cliches become cliches is that they are the hammers and screwdrivers in the toolbox of communication.”  Terry Pratchett

A Simile Upon My Lips

She crossed her magnificent cliches
and blithely jutted her metaphors
with one of those smiles
with which sirens erase the world
for breathless moments
of pause, to catch a sense of
something other,
a wilding promise,
with which her eyes drew me closer,
and soon,
I died that little death,
with a simile upon my lips.
