Gloom And Doom

Sarah Doughty

“So yes, my mind is a tomb.
But it isn’t all gloom
and doom in here.”

After so long, I’ve come to accept the tomb that is my mind. It never fails to move closer to the encroaching darkness. It never stops scratching at the walls with bloodied, ragged fingernails. Sending shudders down my spine with each screeching swipe. It reminds me of all that has happened, and for good measure, it often makes me relive them. But that’s not everything that lives there. There’s some beautiful moments too. The kind that we’ll make me smile no matter what I’m doing. So yes, my mind is a tomb. But it isn’t all gloom and doom in here.

It’s a mix of good and bad.
Just like me.

Terrible love

My beloved, I curse the day I said yes to you,
It was my prerogative, no doubt
It could have been sooner my beau
I so fell in love with your pout!

I am sick and tired of your explosive anger
Your wearisome stubbornness and defiance
To your alien ways I am no foreigner
Honey, what would I be without this alliance!

How do you think we will manage with your income meagre
Your stupid scruples you follow inexcusably
My love, to sacrifice for you I am always eager
I love how you still acquit yourself admirably!

You are the inspiration for this third class verse,
My love for you colours my vision for better or worse!

Written for terrible poetry contest.

Keep it alive

Hold on, don’t let go

A firm grip on the reality is needed

Otherwise my world will disintegrate

The fantasy that swirls in my mind

Can easily overtake the reality

Submerging me into a world

Totally fantastical and magical
