Remembering

Heartstring Eulogies

“And I remembered you.
I remembered how much
I missed you.”

After so long without you, I was used to monochromatic dreams. The color of your eyes, no longer a brilliant shade. The tone of your flawless skin, no longer the same. And the sight of you, in those dreams, was becoming hazy. Like I couldn’t quite remember the planes of your face. Those dreams scared me the most. I didn’t want to forget you. But I felt you slipping away anyway. So when I dreamt last night, and I saw that first glittering of color, it caught me off guard. It was like seeing clearly for the first time in ages. And I remembered you. I remembered how much I missed you. It broke my heart all over again.

I remembered,
and my heart shattered
once more.
