She had a way about her
A certain way of smiling at him
The way she held her head to look at him
She had that certain thing
That made him feel alright
Made him feel alive
Made him feel so good
Made her shine so bright
She was his at the time
And the feeling was sublime
He needed her
Like roses need rain
But like all good things
It was only make believe
And now he sails
On the sea of heartbreak
Looking for someone
To help him
Make it through the night
And make the world go away

Can we pretend it didn’t happen
this slow erosion of our cherished love?
Can we suspend the chilling moment
when two hearts no longer beat in tune?
–Imagine, it’s only us for one minute–
With the radiant stars in our eyes,
when our breath breathes life into each other
Familiar arms embrace, as tender pulses race
having found that brilliant flash of desire once again
Can we pretend it didn’t happen
this slow erosion of our cherished love?
Can we suspend the chilling moment
when two hearts no longer beat in tune?
–Imagine, it’s only us for one minute–
With the radiant stars in our eyes,
when our breath breathes life into each other
Familiar arms embrace, as tender pulses race
having found that brilliant flash of desire once again
You never know how strong you truly are, until strength is your only option. You never know how much you can forgive, until you experience the unforgivable. There is no limit to the amount of trust…

Colleen’s poetry challenge for this week is synonyms only! Her two words are Give and Shake. Check out Colleen’s blog to find which forms of poetry are acceptable for this challenge. Have fun!
Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Abandoning and Shudder.
I shudder in the cold air,
Abandoning warmth.
Much like dear autumn’s last leaf,
Who dares to cling too tightly.

Naked women
are ubiquitous on the web.
They never raise my pulse
or catch my eye
or inspire me
or attract me
or seduce me
or excite me
or cause me to follow
or like
or connect.
Naked women
are ubiquitous on the web
They do nothing for me.
But the mere thought
of you
undressed
does everything,
