Mean To Me

“Don’t you see? You lit my soul
on fire and reminded me I’m alive.”

Don’t you see? You don’t know what you mean to me. Ever since the beginning, you broke through my defenses like they weren’t even there. You lit my soul on fire and set me to burn. Not like a phoenix, rising from the ashes, but a constant, steady burn. Like the churning of lava beneath the earth. Or the flaming of the sun. That burn lets me know you’re still there. I may not always feel it, or recognize that it’s there, but in those moments I need it the most, I remember. I know I’m the luckiest person alive.

Because that’s the point isn’t it? I’m alive. And I have you to thank for that. Perhaps you don’t know what you mean to me. But I hope, one day, you’ll have an idea.

Darkest Moments

“No matter how lost you feel, don’t give up.
You’ll beat it. You’ll overcome it.”

In the darkest moments, when you’re left with nothing but the memories, the ghosts of your past and the demons that lurk in the deepest recesses of your mind — those are when you are the most vulnerable. Those are the moments that can tear you into pieces and leave behind the tattered remains of who you once were. When your emotions overwhelm you and you want nothing more than to shut them off or turn them around. But they’re on a one way street and the brakes have failed.  The moments we fail to see who we really are. When we lose sight of what we have. Forget all the good. And focus on all the bad.

But sometimes there’s that tiny bit of white light, nothing more than a pin prick. A needle…

It’s Time To Say

“My darling, to say that I miss you
would be an understatement.”

To say that I miss you
would be an understatement.
To say that I’m tired
would be sugar coating
the amount of exhaustion I feel.
To say that I’m struggling
and feel like everything
is falling out of control is like
saying a tornado is just a stiff breeze.

I’m doing everything I can to live up to the high expectations I set for myself and I’m feeling as though I’m drowning in it. I’ll pull through, though. But it’s time to say that I’m only one person and I just can’t keep up.

My plan is to slow down,
but never stop.

Because I have to write.

Because I need to write.
