Emotional ~ A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Walt's Writings

Lately I find myself getting emotional
More emotional than usual
I’ve never been ashamed of crying
Or afraid to cry
But this,
This is different
The old saying, “Real men don’t cry”
Is bullshit
Passed down from generation to generation
What’s happening to me seems to be
Triggered by happy things
Military service members arriving home
Surprising their children
Fathers dancing with their daughters
Simple things that never seemed to matter before
Now cause my eyes to start watering
Pictures of my grandsons
Will cause the tears to flow
I know it’s because they are so far away
And because I miss them so
I seem to have gotten softer
The older I’ve become
At first it really bothered me
But now
I just let the tears come
