Encouragement can fortify our journey towards our most ambitious goals. With our heads buried in details, slogging from task to task, attaining our goals can look impossible. Consumed by my to-do list, the goal fade. I have planned, structuring my daily list to push step by step, inching closer to my goal. I am free to forget about goals and big pictures, I can focus on my work and concentrate on the task before me.

When the going gets tough, when my tasks are never-ending, when I would rather binge watch reruns of “The Crown”, I persist. When I fear I am not smart enough, or talented enough, or strong enough, I persist. Day follows day, and I persist.

How will you persist today?

Looking Glass

flashlight batteries - Ali Grimshaw

fullsizeoutput_5beWith the brokenness

there is a choice

to hear the mirror
or bury that which you won’t face.
Without any proof
I know you can do the hard things.
It is courage coupled with action
that matters after we fall.

Brave has always

lived inside of you,

printed in bold letters.
Step forward
cloaked in courage to

pick up onlythe pieces that

are worth keeping.

Are you a what if person?

Keep it alive

The time is midnight, you get up to get a glass of water. After having some, you place the water jug on the table and are just going back to bed, when a thought strikes your mind. Whatif there was an earthquake and the jug fell to the floor as it’s too near the edge. You go back and put it near the center of the table. That person is me! The what if person.

I have this tendency to imagine scenarios, that may never happen. But they still cross my mind. If I am going to lock up the home, I would be thinking what if the key is not in my bag? There are innumerable occasions when fearing the worst or something nearly impossible or improbable has given me a pause.

It may be due to an overactive imagination or a fear of something bad happening…

For New Zealand

Jane Lurie Photography

When Great Trees Fall

When great trees fall,

rocks on distant hills shudder,

lions hunker down

in tall grasses,

and even elephants

lumber after safety.

When great trees fall

in forests,

small things recoil into silence,

their senses

eroded beyond fear.

Landscape, Nature, New Zealand Morning, Lake Matheson

When great souls die,

the air around us becomes

light, rare, sterile.

We breathe, briefly.

Our eyes, briefly,

see with

a hurtful clarity.

Our memory, suddenly sharpened,

examines,

gnaws on kind words

unsaid,

promised walks

never taken.

Great souls die and

our reality, bound to

them, takes leave of us.

Landscape, Nature, New Zealand Silence, Milford

Our souls,

dependent upon their

nurture,

now shrink, wizened.

Our minds, formed

and informed by their

radiance,

fall away.

We are not so much maddened

as reduced to the unutterable ignorance

of dark, cold caves.

Landscape, Nature, New Zealand Punakaiki

And when great souls die,

after a period peace blooms,

slowly and always

irregularly. Spaces fill

with a…

Possessed Poets ~ A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Walt's Writings

As a poet, I often feel
Like I am possessed
But then I think
Aren’t all poets possessed?”
We write in rhyme
Or no rhymes at all
We can make 2 feet
Appear to be ten feet tall
The words that we write
Are sometimes words we never say
We can make you see
Feel, hear and even taste
What we create
With just our words
A pen is our paint brush
Our blood, sweat and tears
Become our ink
Paper is our canvas
Poetry is our art
I am a Poet
And yes,
I am possessed
