Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 202 – Wave The Old Goodbye…

But I Smile Anyway...

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – C.S. Lewis

Well, here it is. The last Sunday of 2018.

Where did that year go? Seriously, it has flown by and I can’t quite believe it.

It’s been eventful in so many ways, with work and stress, family and stress, writing and stress… I think you get the gist of what I am saying. 2018 was filled with a whole lot of stress for me, but there were many good points too.

My dream for next year is to be able to take more time for me.

So I don’t fall into the stress potholes of life so easily.

So I can deal with work issues without worry.

So I can handle the inevitable ups and downs of family life calmly

So I can really work on this writing malarkey and fulfil one of…

Children learn by playing. We, adults, put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect, to succeed, and win the race to the finish line. We forget we need to play too. We need to allow ourselves time to experiment, to have fun, and to make mistakes. Taking risk pushes us to new adventures.

While you are planning your goals for the New Year remember to allow yourself time to experiment and take risks. You may stumble on something that will change your life.

What risks are you willing to take in 2019?

Keep on writing.

(For my wife, on our 45th Anniversary)

where did they go
all those fleet-footed years
packed with living and loving
with birthing and dying

the answer it seems
is they fled to the mirror
right into the glass
all their stories and ghosts
washed in sepia verging
on gray all except for
unchangeable eyes
brown and blue
still bright with the
mutual youthful affection
that never grew old

our uncountable
triumphs and tragedies
mark us like grooves
cut the bark of a
double-trunk tree
conjoined in the struggle
that aging imposes
no longer young saplings
with tentative roots
testing touching beneath
forest newlywed soil

we’ve grown beyond
passions exchanged in
our separate dreams
for one future to bliss
of exquisite contentment
with one past we built
for the sake of one present
in which we enjoy our
shared breathing
shared heartbeats
shared memory
holding one…

While We Cry – A Poem By Walt Page, The Tennessee Poet

Walt's Writings

While we cry
The world continues
The sun still shines
The rains still fall
The winds still kiss our faces
The warmth of our tears
Brings us new hope
Leading us onward
Lifting us lovingly
To the life yet to be
While we cry
The music still plays
Our hearts still beat
And we still write
While we cry

It is great fun coming up with your New Year Resolutions, but it is also the easy part. Step 2, putting it in writing, is harder.  Setting goals requires setting milestones and planning specific details. Details that need to be broken into monthly, weekly, daily and hourly goals. It is work to break your big, audacious goal into bite-size tasty treats. How else do you eat an elephant?

This week I set goals, planned milestones, and scheduled my daily details for 2019.

What do your goals look like for next year?

Keep on writing.
