NOT ALONE, BUT LONELY

By Charles Robert Lindholm

he’s finally home from work
and she meets him at the door
she greets him with a smile and kiss
like she’s always done before

she wraps her arms around him
while he stands frozen to the floor
he hasn’t got a hunger
though she is starved for more

she has an inner longing
but he chooses not to care
he feels no need for bonding
as long as she’s just there

she feels a burning in her heart
it’s filled with such desire
and so she’s forced to give her love
to those who want a fire

she lights a thousand hearts
children, family, friends
though no beloved fills her up
when the day is done and ends

she goes to sleep in silence
lonelier than if alone
she prays about the pain she feels
but ignores the signs she’s shown

not wanting to accept the truth
her heart so long has known

  1. This is a very insightful poem for a man to write about a woman’s feelings. I suspect it is an anthem for a wonderful woman you have known and respected. I have known women like that, too, and sometimes, a similar loneliness. Good on you for your insights.

    1. Why Kim, you are such a Dear for your sweet comment!! You just made my day! Your comment is too kind! I have been blessed with a wonderful soulmate and we never let the other get out or come back to the house without a kiss and hug! One never knows when the last kiss will be???

Mainly, I wrote this for some stunningly wonderful women I have known that have been in this situation – no mother’s day card, well, you get the picture. They are sentimental and romantic and married to Rambo??? It really does amaze me how that happens. And it is so very sad for me (a sentimental soul) to see it and know what the woman is feeling but that she will not let go or make a change just for her own benefit – out of loyalty or faith. It’s not really a favor to either one to be in a marriage where they are not still “In Love”, if you know what I mean! Just me!

Thank you so much for your insightful comment! I do hope you will continue to come and visit me! I hope you don’t mind me going on and on and on and on! It past my bedtime! LOL!
      xoxo
