I fear that I shall not long bear in mind
Memories I thought we’d always treasure;
But life’s uncertainties can seem unkind—
You and I have had more than our measure.
I’ve loved you without ever asking why.
Darling, we have been each other’s pleasure,
So do me this one favor ‘til I die:
With the cord of love retention tether,
Perchance this ill to sometimes nullify—
Help me to remember us together.
