My days are moving faster now
than they ever did
and summers lasted longer
when I was just a kid
I don’t know all the reasons why
the seasons, fly by
but there are too many candles
on my birthday cake
I can’t take it slower
though I know I should
’cause the world is turning faster
than I wish it would
I know I’m growing older
and that time will not erase
the lines and all the creases
I see upon my face
So, I’m saving up my memories
of the way things were
before they get too fuzzy
and all become a blur
I’ve lived and laughed and loved
but in the end we find
“the road ahead is shorter
than the one we’ve left behind”

I once had a sculpture professor who looked at a piece I had done and said, “I wish I had done that.” It was the highest compliment he could have given me as his work was superb. When I read your poem, I remember his line…I wish I had written that. 🙂 hugs, pat

These thoughts have been running through my mind this week as I struggle with a poem. Thank you Chuck, beautifully expressed.
