AN IMPROVISED LIFE

 An improvised life

no following footsteps

like the rest of us

it’s not what we’ve heard

professed to us

 

A high wire act

meant to thrill you

so daring and bold

it might kill you

 

A dangerous course

on an uncharted sea

too scary for those

who will never live free

 

An improvised life

with no musical score

a life played by ear

like none sung before

as our hearts hum softly

and dream of more

    Have you checked out the fine are and poster sites to show your work! I would suggest You study the life of Thomas Kinkade! He started making money when he found a way to duplicate his work and increase his income from one single work. You might try it. Making money off art one at a time will be difficult and take time. Don’t give up!!!

  8. Very nice! I’m living an improvised life even now. At this point it seems as though I’ll never make a living off my art and writing, but at the same time, I’ll never go back to working for someone else. I’ve tasted freedom, and now I’m addicted!

  11. i came back to this one Charles as i let it simmer and soak in my heart about an improvised life and what it means to me, i have always felt i have a life less lived, i lived reckless and big before but lived less in so many ways because there never was peace, and i did not know how to find that peace. still learning to find peace till today. but your last stanza should be lyrics to a song! it sang to me with a melody that says to live free. improvise as we go along, don’t stop the things that want to alter our course, let love in, let light shine, go with the flow and trust. Improvising is about trust to me, trusting you heart and not your brain, trusting another person in, trusting another person to hold your hand. trusting your judgement in the new improvised life. i could sing your words all day long and be happy.

    1. Wow! I think I got a concussion when I fell over backwards from your wonderful and lovely words. I am just tickled pink that you came back to this and that it has made such an impression on you. It’s good to think about isn’t it.

      Even if you have to be like a man – “a man does what he has to do” to support his family. Your soul needs to know that you can still do some of the things that bring you bliss??

      If you are singing my words all day long and being happy – I am thrilled – please record the melody and maybe we can get a song??? LOL!!

      1. its very upbeat something Patsy Cline might sing! My dad would be around your age and he loved country music and that influenced me a lot. with the stress of supporting my family i did neglect myself a lot so am being a little lenient now, a new improvised life!! your words are every inspirational.

        2. Yep, I guess that is true, I’m old enough. I loved your poem about your Dad. I doubt anyone would come close to him. I love the way your shared your relationship with him. It says so much about how wonderful and thoughtful you are. I feel the same way too. It is really great to have such a great connection with you too. It is nice to have “channels” to communicate and share. I look forward to continuing that!!

  14. Motivational and true words Charles. This is an interesting topic. Recently I have tried to bring some order to my blog by posting certain things on certain days. This came about after reading lots of advice from social media experts on how to run a successful blog. The thing is, this order has blocked the creativity and I am thinking of going back to working on the bounce, as it were. Your poem came at an opportune time and may have prompted a march back to improvisation 🙂

    1. I’m honored for your comments and so glad that they hit on a topic of interest that may be helpful for you. A Poet’s Dream come true!!! You are always so good to me!!! I saw the change you made earlier and it seemed to make sense but if it comes at the expense of you creativity – then bye, bye baby!

      Being more spontaneous and “on the bounce” (I like it) is an important option and as one of your followers I love it too. I have started to schedule out my posts a bit but I get what you are saying because I think “I just want to post this”! Maybe cut your structure back to every other week to see if you really want to dump it.

      You are the composer and you get to choose the notes, the intensity, the rests and the speed. The best advice I have heard is “Do What You Love”!!

    2. I’m struggling with keeping a schedule, also. Fatigue become an issue. But it’s hard because I want to share so many news article. I would post a Surferbird everyday if I could. So, like Davy, I’ll post them as often as I’m able. Who wants to follow a tired, old surferbird?

        1. I love the editorial committee idea,Charles! I don’t really feel old, but I’ve neglected self-care over the last year. Sometimes, when you’re launching a project, this is only natural. But I love writing, and I wake up every day thinking about my plans. I thrive on both my blog and, now, freelancing. Thanks, Charles for your support!
